Something Good...

Aaron spent all day at the infusion center on Wednesday. They had to draw blood every two hours. His infusion began at 8:30 a.m. and the final blood draw was taken at 6:18p.m. He says this should be the last time he has a long day like that and soon his trips to Sacramento should be shorter. 

I think about how hard Aaron works at beating this cancer. He does it like he does everything else, with a smile on his face and without complaint. Whatever is thrown his way he adjusts and takes on what he has been asked to do whether it be in church callings, trials, work, family, etc. He is the most steady person I know. I often ask how I got to be so blessed...

We met with the oncologist yesterday and went over Aaron's PET scan. The prognosis came as no surprise to us. Aaron's symptoms have only intensified over the last two weeks and we knew there could be only one reason why; the cancer was spreading. He has stage 4 papilary lung cancer. It has spread to his hips, part of his spine, rib cage, and some small lymph nodes. Each place Aaron pointed to, on his body where he felt pain, the dr. would look at that area on the scan and we would see a green dot indicating cancer. We are waiting for more results to tell us if this cancer has any genetic markers. There is a 10% chance he has one of them and a 3-4% chance he has the other. If he has one of these markers it means the treatment is more successful. In the meantime, we proceed as if Aaron has neither of these markers present and we begin chemotherapy. The Battle Begins

As Aaron's family, we think he is the greatest and we know there are many others who feel the same way.  He is a friend to all and sees the best in everyone.  Our Big A is truly one of a kind. Aaron has always been a healthy guy and has never smoked a day in his life.  When he became sick in January, we never dreamed it was anything serious.  Multiple doctors told him it was Bronchitis.  By March, he and Sweet Lorraine knew it was something more serious.  X-rays were alarming and the biopsy showed Adinocarcinoma Lung Cancer. He will soon begin treatment.  He and Lorraine, along with Kaitlin, Maddie, David, Brigham, Ella and Lily are asking for your faith and prayers.

Back To Work...

It’s Aaron writing today.    Sweet Lorraine has done such a nice job updating this Blog.   My Mom and my sisters have also helped.   Thanks to so many of you who have written nice things, and taken the time to express your concern.   Regarding the nice comments some of you have written about me on this blog, a friend recently said to me:   “Those people are obviously writing about a different Aaron Thatcher.”   The greater mystery to me is that some actually find our lives interesting to read about.   We’re about as average and normal a family as you’d find.   And so we’ve been so grateful that you’d show an interest in our circumstances and even remember to include us in your personal and family prayers.   I’m feeling great.   I’ll return to work on Monday.   I just received my official clearance from my physician this week.   Part of his letter reads as follows: “Aaron is medically cleared to return to f...
