I don't know Aaron very well as we lived a couple hours apart when I was growing up and so I mostly saw him at family reunions and the occasional baptism, missionary farewell, etc., but he is always so delighted to see me (as he is with everyone) and lights up the room with his smile. When we were both at BYU he decided he needed to get to know me better, so he invited me to the big ballroom dance performance in the Marriott Center. He was a delight to be with, as always was very interested in my life, and I loved walking around campus with a handsome 6-foot, 6-plus-inches fellow (no one had to know he was really my cousin :) ). He's one of the few always-nice people I know who I don't secretly suspect are faking it most of the time. He's so genuine.Though I come from the nerdy sports-averse branch of the family, I admired him so much for serving a mission despite being courted during high school by pro baseball scouts. We all knew how much he loved baseball, and we all admired him for having such tremendous character. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Aaron--and I'll be fasting with everyone else on Wednesday. I know that the happiest outcome the Lord is willing to grant in this situation will be yours, because you have honored his name with your life and those you have blessed are praying for you now.Marie Thatcher
As Aaron's family, we think he is the greatest and we know there are many others who feel the same way. He is a friend to all and sees the best in everyone. Our Big A is truly one of a kind. Aaron has always been a healthy guy and has never smoked a day in his life. When he became sick in January, we never dreamed it was anything serious. Multiple doctors told him it was Bronchitis. By March, he and Sweet Lorraine knew it was something more serious. X-rays were alarming and the biopsy showed Adinocarcinoma Lung Cancer. He will soon begin treatment. He and Lorraine, along with Kaitlin, Maddie, David, Brigham, Ella and Lily are asking for your faith and prayers.
Marie,
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice of you to write. We feel lucky to be around you. You are a marvel and have done so well with your life. I bet it was fun walking across campus with Aaron. I know he thought it was terrible that at BYU people didn't wave or say hello when they walked between classes. I think he single handedly tried to change that.
Love you,
Aunt Kathy
