Chemo Begins |
A pod with a view |
All of Aaron's oncologists agreed that it is time to use chemo. He hasn't been feeling well for a few weeks and chemo should give him a boost and take care of the cancer for a while. He will receive two different chemo drugs Carboplatin and Pemetrexed. He will receive his infusions once every three weeks here in Utah. He will also continue to take Tagrisso, the targeted drug he has been on for 15 months. It's also possible he will have the small spot in his brain radiated.
Before the chemo infusion he is given two different IV nausea meds that last for 4-5 days. After the 4th day he will take oral nausea meds and that regiment should curb any sick stomach feelings. He will most likely feel extreme fatigue for about a week. Since this is his first dose we are just going to have to wait and see what the side effects are like for him.
Looking back, it's been nine months since one of his doctors recommended chemo and Aaron said not until he researched his other options. We are grateful for the guidance we received that led us instead to the drug trial in Sacramento. We feel that helped buy us the past 9 months before getting to this point.
When Aaron knew he needed to move on to a different treatment he told me he felt that God is in this. We know He is in the calm waters as well as the storm tossed seas in our lives. Instead of looking at what this cancer is taking away or can take away from us, we are going to look at what it is giving us and will give us in the days to come. There has been good in this journey and there will be more good to come.
Thank you for your comments, love, and encouragement. We love you.
Sorry about the wonky font sizes. I tried a million times and couldn't fix it.
Uncle Paul spoke at the stake conference meeting in Hamburg last night, he talked a little about how trials come even to the very righteous. He told the Saints about Aaron's cancer, the CF and about how he admires you all. Especially poignant was how he told them how you are such good, good people.
ReplyDeleteWe truly think about, and pray for you always. We love you so much!
Always in our prayers. Thanks for your inspiring example! You are all loved. Mary Lewis
ReplyDeleteWe are thinking about you Aaron and your wonderful family! I check the blog as it is about the only info I get here in Tirana, Albania. Thank goodness for Skype and Face time because we don't get many letters or updates on all the cousins. Prayers said, fingers crossed and many blessings to you and your family. We love you.
